Are there minecraft videos? Is there a multi instance search? Is there a web ui that allows me to navigate like how lemmy works?

I tried it once and I was confused and there was little or no content, but it could have been the instance I was on.

most of my youtube usage is from an amazon tv device. even if its app store had peertube I have channels that are my go to searches for their content.

Sadly, of no one of using it than by definition it isn’t better than YouTube. Users create the content. The content makes the experience.

No users means no content. No content means no mass appeal. No mass appeal means no forward momentum, which circles us back to #1… No content.

Saying Peertube is a “better YouTube” just isn’t factual when discussing services where users and content define the experience.

Youtube is a big old Canyonero with a fat tankful of gasoline and drives wherever it wants. We need a bunch of users to come to peertube, each with a thimbleful of gasoline. Eventually the peertube tank will be full as well.

I’ve observed that people like the YouTube algorithm. Even privacy conscious/self hosting types.

…And that seems fundamentally orthogonal to peertube.

Maybe it can integrate with Lemmy/Piefed for categorized recommendations or something?

This recent interview touches a bit on the topic of social network vs. social media.

Peertube falls into the latter camp, but has a content funding issue. Aside from some gaming live-streams or similar, there just isn’t much reason to make a video of what usually could be an easy microblog post, unless someone pays you to do it (like on Youtube or Tiktok).

This problem is ultimatly what stops Peertube from becoming more than a place where people mirror stuff from other social media platforms.
