A remote Air Force base in Alaska is getting its own nuclear reactor::Eielson Air Force Base will get some of its energy from a small nuclear reactor that’s scheduled to go online in 2027.
A micro reactor, which is really cool.
This is really cool, but not exactly abnormal. “Nuclear submarines” already have them
Oh sure they can have one but I can’t 🙄
Very interesting and very cool. Another very interesting thing here is the company building/running the small reactor is Oklo. Oklo is co founded by Sam Altman, which is the CEO of OpenAI, the company that made ChatGPT. This guy may be a household name in the next few years. Oklo going public via SPAC merger in 2024.

Damn that article URL looks like a bunch of buzzwords stringed together lmao
That is literally what it is :D
Kinda surprised they don’t already with how long the Navy has been cracking atoms to keep the lights on
Shadow Moses!
Why not be trendy and open a coal mine? They’re all the rage nowadays
In Germany yes? Shut down all nuclear power plants, level towns for a coal mine, right?
Mmm, black lung
How are people missing the obvious satire
Yea, for you numbnuts who think I’m pushing for coal, get fucking real
The base already uses a coal/oil plant for 33 megawatts of power. The micro nuclear reactor would augment 5 megawatts to start, with expectations to expand once up and running.
