Technology@lemmy.ml•Microsoft's latest Windows 11 24H2 update breaks SSDs/HDDs, may corrupt dataEnglish
14·5 months agoThe headline is a bit sensational. The bug only manifests in rare conditions, like large file writes, and the error state resolves on reboot. Additionally, it only affects some models of drives. Still. Good to be made aware of. Thanks for sharing!
Whether it’s for me or not, the people still need to be warned. Thank you for your input
Don’t Google that
You can run from USB to see how it works without installing, then install once you’ve found one that works well/that you like. Let us know how it goes!

9·1 year agoCalculate how much time is lost by the delays and crashes caused by old hardware. If you can break down how expensive not upgrading is, it might be easier to sell the upgrade. You could also break down the upgrade into waves, replacing only a third (or maybe a fourth) of the machines each year, starting with the oldest, and with the users who rely on them most. Another benefit to the wave approach is that you’ll reduce the likelihood of having to do another big upgrade every 3-4 years.
