This report from the Global Network on Extremism and Technology (GNET) analyzes how far-right digital networks in India are leveraging the Israel-Gaza war to amplify anti-Muslim narratives. According to the analysis, Indian social media accounts—some with verified status—have been sharing manipulated videos, false casualty lists, and inflammatory claims that link Palestinians with Islamist extremism. These posts, circulated across X, Telegram, and WhatsApp, have gained millions of views, often outpacing fact-checks.
The report identifies that while these accounts publicly express strong support for Israel, their content frequently reveals underlying antisemitic tropes, including admiration for Hitler and hostility toward Abrahamic religions. This contradiction suggests that the support for Israel is often instrumental—used to justify hardline policies toward Indian Muslims and to reinforce domestic political narratives.
The analysis also highlights the role of organized IT cells associated with political parties in producing and amplifying such content. The intended effects range from influencing domestic public opinion to creating a global perception of Muslims as an existential threat. The broader implication is the further polarization of online spaces and potential real-world consequences for Muslim communities in India and abroad.
