I know Apple isn’t great and I’ve been using Procreate on an iPad for drawing but are there any other options that don’t require me buying a computer? Ideally I could get a drawing tablet with a screen similar to the iPad.
Well I have a SteamDeck so maybe I could connect a tablet to it.

Any standalone drawing tablets with screens are likely going to be worse about privacy than Apple. You probably want to look into buying a used laptop with a stylus touchscreen and put Linux on it.
I was looking into this recently for myself. My personal solution was to get an old WACOM pressure plate graphics tablet and plug it into a cheap laptop that I put Linux on, with Krita as my art program.
There are Linux tablets with stylus support out there if the display aspect is important to you. They were out of my price range, though.
Krita is available on Android and Wacom, XPpen, Huion and Samsung all have tablets with their brand of EMR styli.
Android tablet? Or a tablet PC with Linux, but the experience is not going to be great.
A USB wacom tablet should work on the steam deck since it’s just Linux.
Any external touchscreen display is probably not going to be good for drawing.
You’re totally agnostic as to software, just want some kind of device that isn’t a computer that has a touchscreen that you can draw with?
EDIT: Are you currently using an Apple Pencil? Like, you’re wanting a stylus with pressure/tilt/whatever?
I have the Apple pencil because I like using a stylus. I was just concerned about the cost but people recommended a used laptop which would be cheaper considering the cost of ram these days. I’m not picky about software I just want to make sure companies like Apple and Google can’t screw me over
