Then he lost like ten grand USD in Bitcoin because he left a (default) port forwarded to a VNC server in his house, open to the public and only protected by a known compromised password… and after that I stopped listening to anything he had to say about security.

I’m suspicious of anyone overconfident like that. The pen-testers I know love to make examples of them.
