I just wanted to say the only reason I even strayed from Reddit is because of ljDawson’s incredible app, Sync. I used it on Reddit for years and then I learned he continued the project here on Lemmy.

I ditched iPhone again and bought a Pixel Fold after learning this and here I am. Totally worth it. This app is even better than Apollo.

Thanks so much Mr. Dawson for making Lemmy feel good.

Is Sync not on the iPhone? I have a pixel and am considering changing it, I’m fed up with Google.

But no Sync for Lemmy on iPhone would be a problem…

I’ve looked into the steps, I feel like I’ll end up with a very nice paper weight if I try it. Everyone replies that it’s not that bad but that hasn’t dissipated my fears.

It’s incredibly hard to brick a Pixel, like you’d have to deliberately go out of your way to brick it. Even if you make some typos or accidentally miss some steps or something, the worst you can end up is with a soft-brick - where you have a temporarily non-functioning phone, but restoring it is as simple as just flashing the original firmware (literally one command).

Is your pixel supported by the web installer? If so it’s literally just changing a couple settings on your phone and then pressing a couple buttons on a webpage. The easiest ROM I’ve ever installed.

The guided installation is super easy, and it’s literally stock Android without Google play services. If some apps you use (banking, a lot of proprietary apps) need google play services, I recommend making another user profile with sandboxed google play installed.

If your concern is that it will be less performant than stock android, I have not found that to be the case.

The smooth experience Sync offers is top tier, I think only Summit for Lemmy rivals it.

Sync is how I learned about Lemmy. But it wasn’t up yet when I switched, so I downloaded Connect, which is a lovely free app.

Same here. I left reddit the second Reddit Sync announced it stopped working. Then, a few weeks ago, I searched for Lemmy Sync, and here I am!
