If it can be installed on arch, it can be installed on steam OS. You just have to jailbreak it beforehand, as I said in the previous comment.

Can’t be worse than trying to fix dependencies for maven on any platform
I installed some games from GOG on the steam deck. The hardest part was trying to figure out how to make them show up in steam library. For software that requires modifying the system, you’ll have to jailbreak the steam os. It’s quite straight forward and irc it took me about 30min to enable sudo and install ydotool for autoclicker.

Programmer Humor@programming.dev•So how is it going South Korea?
4·1 month agoNew drives are more like 20€ per TB. Factor in redundancy with something like raid 5 and boom, off-site storage costs you a government toppling 20 000€ in hard drives.

Open Source@lemmy.ml•Murena launches phone with open-source /e/OS and privacy focus (hardware kill switch)
1·2 months agoThe /e/OS version of Fairphone 6 is still almost 50% cheaper, while providing slightly higher IP rating, 3 years longer warranty, schematics for board repair and a guarantee of 8 years of software updates. In addition to that, the phone is built ethically.
Murena phone has a faster GPU (2x) and up to 36% faster CPU, but only 2 years of warranty and 5 years of spare parts. Fairphone still has spare displays on sale for Fairphone 2, which came out a decade ago.
Hiroh phone also has a “sustainability” field in the specs, which is nice and empty

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•I'm "use NFS forfilesharing" old. what's the current optimal solution for shared drives if I have like 3 linux machines in the house?English
1·3 months agoIt is doable, but it is a pain if the docker requires any special config like permanent storage. Getting nginx up and running for mTLS was especially annoying

21·3 months agoTruenas Scale works well as long as you don’t want any dockers on it. Once you want to run docker images it is easier to install a VM on Truenas and run the docker from there than it is to try to set up custom “Apps”

Buy European@feddit.uk•Fairphone’s new cables and chargers are both faster and tougherEnglish
3·3 months agoYeah, random lagging issues are bad. I used to have an older Sony Xperia, that one lagged for about 5-10 minutes every time you connected it to a charger. The poor lad had only 3GB of RAM.
The Fairphone isn’t perfect either, there have been some crashes and some UI glitches. The crashes happened less than once a month, but recently it seems like they have fixed the issue. UI glitches haven’t been anything major, usually something like notification popups layering on top of each other or apps being active while in the application overview menu. They go away once you lock your screen and unlock it again.

Firefox generates random passwords for you by default. You have to disable it in the settings if you want to use another password manager besides Firefox’s built in one.
