I had to manually install speech-to-text and fiddle with language downloads and mic permissions to get that to work on my 8a. And I had to disable exploit protection on my banking app so it would launch. And… well that’s about it. The rest was basically identical to setting up stock Android.

Another confirmation that Endeavour is great with Steam. However I did have to follow the Arch wiki to install the correct Mesa drivers on my new PC (Radeon RX 7800 XT), as without those the GPU performance was crap.
Ugh I still run Ubuntu LTS on my living room HTPC, and generally it’s fine. But on the occasion I need to fix something, I swear every seemingly relevant forum post is from 2015 or earlier. It’s maddening.

To the rescue comes Mobile Linux "PostmarketOS" - Funded via Donations (link to 2025 Priorities -> Focus on Reliabilty, Audi, Camera, etc)English9·3 months agoMy understanding is that AOSP is still and will continue to be a thing. That’s Android. What Google has done though is put more and more new capabilities into Play Services, which are not open, rather than AOSP.
I hope someone will correct me or add better nuance though.
Deconceptualist@lemm.eeto Android@lemmy.world•Is there an app that can change what the default browser app is based on which app is open?English14·4 months agoI really love URLCheck, available on F-Droid. It intercepts URL requests, gives you some info, and prompts you to choose a browser whenever you click a link from another app.

How do these compare to ones from Sennheiser? I’ve been thinking about getting a pair.

But anyway, I was referring more to the trolls and harassers that need to be banned entirely, not just blocked/ignored by individuals. These people will put nasty inappropriate stuff as their profile pics in the first place, and create new accounts just to pester others.
Deconceptualist@lemm.eeto Technology@lemmy.world•AI Will Save Dating Apps. Or Maybe Finally Kill ThemEnglish6·5 months agoI think the problem there is moderation. Who is going to do the work of blocking/banning 1000 creepy messages and dick pics per minute on an open platform?
Deconceptualist@lemm.eeto Technology@lemmy.world•AI Will Save Dating Apps. Or Maybe Finally Kill ThemEnglish76·5 months agoLet’s be honest, what these apps are going to do is boost user engagement (read: waste your fucking time) by pulling you into conversations with AI chatbots. The longer you’re there, the more advertisements they can feed you. It’s going to be harder and harder to find a real person, because investors don’t benefit from that.
A: None; it was Devon.
Deconceptualist@lemm.eeto Firefox@lemmy.ml•TIL Mozilla has a senior director of gift planningEnglish361·6 months agoHuh? That seems normal for any organization that accepts donations. Someone has to coordinate how they track and interface with donors (e.g. mailers, webpage, etc) and how they process the donated funds (cheque, bank transfer, etc). In fact that usually takes a modest team of people to plan and deliver, and one of them has to be in charge, hence the Director.
Note, “gift” is commonly a synonym for donation here.

Oh damn, you’re right. I just tried it with Steam Play turned off and it wouldn’t even launch.
I swear it was already playable via Proton though. I even installed it on Steam Deck just for shits & giggles a couple months ago and it worked, albeit not a great experience on a 7" screen. Still, any improvements are good.
That’s kinda sad, but at least they’re playable somehow I guess.
I didn’t realize that, thanks
Total War: Shogun 2 is now playable? It runs natively on Linux and doesn’t even need Proton. I guess this is good news if someone has a Windows only copy on DVD or something.
In the US, companies contracted by the federal government must comply with data storage location requirements that DO keep the data strictly within their territory and under national jurisdiction. i believe this falls under FedRAMP regulations. I’m 95%+ certain that major EU countries have equivalent policies (probably even better ones, considering the GDPR and so forth).
That correction aside, I completely agree with the larger concern here.
