I worked in IT for 25 years and this was true for a large majority of calls I got over the years. I called it the IT intimidation rule. LOL

58·2 years agoBut Dixon wrote, rather cryptically, that remaining employees will put “more emphasis on our social channels as we accelerate our discussion with partners to take our content to where it will be viewed most broadly.”
In other words, the in depth reporting and niche shows aren’t making enough money, so we’re going to dump all that shit and jump on the reality TV bandwagon.

Technology@lemmy.world•We Asked A.I. to Create the Joker. It Generated a Copyrighted Image.English
47·2 years agoYes but image copyright is fickle thing, because at what point does it become not a copyrighted image? I have to reference the “Ship of Theseus” thought experiment, because it does sort of apply here. A fictional character cannot be drawn from a first hand perspective, so some sort of copyrighted image HAS to be used as a reference. So where does one draw the line?

Technology@lemmy.world•We Asked A.I. to Create the Joker. It Generated a Copyrighted Image.English
914·2 years agoI have a question for the author of this stupid fucking article. What the fuck do you think half of the artists on the planet do? They use copyrighted images as reference when drawing fictional characters and they often end up looking very similar to the original. There are thousands of people on social media that sell these drawings on a regular basis.

9·2 years agoIIRC, they have UV sterilizers for central HVAC systems. So while it may not sterilize surfaces, it will kill all airborne pathogens.

35·2 years agoIf you read the article its the entire phone that gets hot, not just the “insides”. While a slight increase in temp under heavy load is normal, becoming too hot to even pick up is not.
I mean come on, this is a design flaw without question, you can easily get burned by a 115°F metal case.

1042·3 years agoThose assholes should have never pushed the shit in the first place. Giving people the freedom to work from home and still live their life at the same time, then trying to snatch it away and force a return to the office, is clearly going to cause some serious push back. But these fucks were more worried about justifying their expensive office leases, than actually listening to and respecting their employees. A lot of those shit companies got what they deserved, empty offices, weakened workforce, and less overall productivity. Good job assholes.

Technology@lemmy.world•Tech experts are starting to doubt that ChatGPT and A.I. ‘hallucinations’ will ever go away: ‘This isn’t fixable’English
1·3 years agoVery good points. I have very limited knowledge about the inner workings of most LLMs, I just know the tidbits I’ve read here and there.
As far as quantum computers, based on my current understanding is once they’re at a point where they can be used commercially, they should easily be able to model/run artificial neural networks. Based on the stuff I’ve seen from Dr. Michio Kaku, quantum computers will eventually have the capacity to do pretty much anything.

Technology@lemmy.world•Tech experts are starting to doubt that ChatGPT and A.I. ‘hallucinations’ will ever go away: ‘This isn’t fixable’English
14·3 years agoI don’t think thats the case. If I understand correctly, the current issue is processing power, they can only load so much data before response time goes to absolute shit. I would think that layering different AI logic checks to verify statements made, recall previous conversations, and other mental processes that humans do automatically, would correct this issue. But with current technology its not even an option. My theory is that once quantum computers are actually finally realized and economically feasible, developers will be able to overcome the response time hurdle and all of the layered logic checks will be able to run simultaneously and instantly. My personal opinion is that I think the eventual layering of numerous AI models to overlap, check, and recheck one another, will be what brings on the emergence of what could be considered actual AI consciousness.
