It’s all because of Electron, unnecessary libraries, and just bad coders. Asus Armoury Crate weighs a lot and is so slow, but it’s basically a simple app. Total Commander has much more features, but it’s fast, lightweight, and consumes 9 MB of RAM.

Gxost@lemmy.worldto Android@lemmy.world•What phone can I switch to that gives the least money to American companies?English93·4 months agoSamsung is from South Korea, and their flagships are on par with iPhones.
Many companies chose cheap coders over good coders, even without AI. Companies I heard of have pretty bad code bases, and they don’t use AI for software development. Even my company preferred cheap coders and fast development, and the code base from that time is terrible, because our management didn’t know what good code is and why it’s important. For such companies, AI can make development even faster, and I doubt code quality will suffer.
It depends. AI can help writing good code. Or it can write bad code. It depends on the developer’s goals.
Asus G16 2023 has 2 USB-A, 2 USB-C (one of them supports Thunderbolt), Ethernet, HDMI, 3.5 mm jack, and a micro-SD slot.

I googled a bit and found it was actually AdBlock Plus eating RAM, so I switched to uBlock Origin. But not all people switched to another extension, some of them switched to anotger browser.

I want Mozilla to know how the browser is used, so they can improve it based on statistics rather than their assumptions.
Filtering is more flexible in some cases, but why should I filter a community instead of blocking it?

My experience is the opposite. A colleague who uses SourceTree and git console (for use cases not covered by SourceTree) asked me a few times to fix his branches when something went wrong (after using git console). I easily fixed it using SmartGit (paid software).
A good GUI can solve most problems.
100% with Firefox for Android and Blokada. 100% with Firefox 117 beta for Windows (advanced tracking protection + uBlock Origin).

Currently, it’s implemented on a client level in a few clients, but it obviously doesn’t work for the web UI. Blocking all users from a certain instance is not that useful, I guess.

Gxost@lemmy.worldto Sync for Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is so good about sync (and the other interfaces)?English9·2 years agoI’m a Liftoff user, but I was waiting for Sync for Lemmy because I liked the design of Sync for Reddit (based on screenshots). Basically yes, Liftoff and Sync for Lemmy are pretty similar, but Sync also has a ton of adjustments and cool features Liftoff is missing. And Sync has clean appealing design. After using it Liftoff looks worse.
Once I wrote an annoying program adding acceleration to the mouse cursor, so it was difficult to click any UI item. It was written in Object Pascal with Win API and weighted 16 KB. And I think in C it would be even smaller.
