  • Mc Donald’s

Good point. It is hard and somewhat confusing at times what one should boycot. While some brands like Tesla and Coca Cola are clearcut, others like Mc Donald’s are franchised (or frenchfried) enterprises. Usually they use >90% local ingredients afaik .

Some other big conglomerates do some of same, using locally sourced ingredients.

Also, one could focus on just sanctioning the RED States for example. At least that was also a POV that was interesting. Some might argue, that Dems are also responsible for this mess, but that’s something everyone needs to decide for themselves.

Also there is Mondalez International is a USA corp. with a range of cookies & chocolates,

Brands like Milka, Cadbury, Côte d’Or, Toblerone, Freia and, LU, Oreo, Belvita, TUC, Prince en Liga

And Pepsi ( with many brands like Lays.

  • should be a push to public transport.

Don’t know where you are from, but most of Europe has had good public transport. Though it can always be better, so Europe is pushing further with for example the TEN project, and check some vids on YT.

Also, imo, there is no " one" right answer. No holy grail nor whatever. Most choices are incrementel.Usuallly It’s a shift of awareness, technology ( in a form) and culture, which hopefully leads to a better tomorrow. The difference is that the majority of the problems we face have no precedent. 8 bn humans worldwide is a first since for ever.

  • over the past 60 years the West

I reckon the writer is saying this about the West because that’s the only data he had access to. And, that this techno-pessimism should be a worldwide phenomena.

On the other hand, I wonder whether other cultures, apart from the West, have adopted a similar risk averse mindset. I mean, “the Haves” (and not the Have- Nots) are the only ones prone to be afraid to loose their accumulated wealth & lifestyle. But probably other affluent groups in the Non- Western world, might have adopted similar tendencies.

Or, they might have not. And this risk averse mindset, is exclusively a Western post-industrial cultural element. It would be very interesting to find out what the cultural & regional differences actually are world-wide.

  • If you want to cry at USA for something they did, do it. But we are crying in Europe for what Ruzzia is doing right now in Europe.

And, the whole of EU supports Ukraine. As they are our good neighbours. So why the fuck would you someone talking about power abuses, have no respect for Ukrainians which are literally seeing whole cities destroyed on a daily basis.

I’d expect considering your tales, that you have at least would’ve some empathy for the victims of power abuse. Bur, no, it’s all about your opinion. Me myself and I . Just wonder what your mentor Lenin would say that to that.
