Most batteries—regardless of type—contain toxic chemicals. Think cadmium, lead, lithium, or sulfuric acid. If your old batteries end up in a landfill, pollutants like these can leak out and contaminate groundwater, damage fragile ecosystems, and potentially make their way into the food chain.

In my opinion it’s a needless extra step. I have had my card number compromised before and it was very little hassle to get a new card and my out of pocket was $0. Debit cards would be a completely different discussion however.

However , surprise, if it’s an old Chromebook you’re going to have to remove the internal write protect screw or use a Susie-q cable to make it the primary operating system on the device as they never intended for you to overwrite the existing os.
You can boot from usb or dual boot though.
