I’m sorry you don’t think people are being helpful but I don’t think the replies are useless, they just aren’t what you want to hear. This is a bad idea, have you considered what would happen if you get caught? You’d be lying on a government form, the TSA can fine up to $17,000 and potentially limit you from flying (which sounds necessary for your career). It’s up to you to choose but I would much rather ask my company to waive the requirement and explain why you feel that way before taking a risk like that.

6·4 months agoMan, I remember when WestJet was like the best of Canadian airlines, but that was when it was owned by employees. Guess who owns it now? Private fucking equity. Not a single thing they don’t ruin.

7·5 months agoIt’s always been this way with Nintendo, even way back. I did a backlight mod to an original DMG-01 Gameboy yesterday and they used tri-wing screws to secure the case, those things suck and are only used to keep consumers out.

Technology@lemmy.world•Amazon engineers and marketers were asked on Monday to volunteer their time to the company’s warehouses to assist with grocery deliveryEnglish
5·5 months agoYeah but I feel like that only worked because YouTube was still fairly new and a niche market compared to groceries, which everbody needs. I don’t see how even Amazon can try to kill the competition in a market that huge, regardless of price or convenience.

Technology@lemmy.world•Pimax: one more brand exposed for promoting "positive reviews".English
7·6 months agoThis doesn’t really surprise me, I’ve gotten weird vibes from Pimax for years. Not so much to do with their hardware, but how their sales / promo team operates. A while back at my old workplace we randomly got contacted by Pimax trying to have us carry their headset, which was weird since we didn’t sell VR stuff or computers even, just other electronics. It was a very out of place request which we basically said we wouldn’t consider it until we can verify the quality of the headset, after which they never replied.

Technology@lemmy.world•Microsoft's AI Secretly Copying All Your Private MessagesEnglish
5·7 months agoAh yes, I think that was when a FOSS maintainer had to step down and handed it off to someone else if I remember right? See this XKCD for relevance. It’s pretty ridiculous how much we (and companies with billion dollar revenues) rely on the free work of others for such important systems. But yes, an important distinction to make is that certain Linux distributions may use code by others that is not open source and malicious without them realizing.

Technology@lemmy.world•Microsoft's AI Secretly Copying All Your Private MessagesEnglish
13·7 months agoI mean, but we pretty much do know? The difference between Linux and Windows / MacOS is Linux is open source and can be checked and audited by anyone. If an exploit exists, it will be visible publicly and just needs to be spotted by those knowledgeable enough. Windows and MacOS are more than likely audited too but by private companies under NDA, so then it’s left up to Microsoft or Apple to decide what exploits are fixed.

5·7 months agoYeah Kiwix is great for this, I just put together what this company is essentially selling for free by myself a few months ago. In fact I would be surprised if this company wasn’t using Kiwix as most of the resources they listed are on it already.

Technology@lemmy.world•Judges Are Fed up With Lawyers Using AI That Hallucinate Court CasesEnglish
61·9 months agoI don’t know if I would call it lying per-se, but yes I have seen instances of AI’s being told not to use a specific tool and them using them anyways, Neuro-sama comes to mind. I think in those cases it is mostly the front end agreeing not to lie (as that is what it determines the operator would want to hear) but having no means to actually control the other functions going on.

3DPrinting@lemmy.world•What Exactly is the Issue with my Bambu P1S...? It Both Under and Overextrudes in Batched areas and sometimes leaves what looks like Overheated/Melted Ripples?English
4·9 months agoHas it always done this or is this a new issue? I agree with what someone else said, I think this is likely a bed leveling issue. The P1S uses pressure sensing using it’s nozzle for bed leveling. If the screws holding the hotend in place aren’t tight enough, it might be giving you poor readouts. This could happen after a nozzle swap if you’ve done one before. Same if the print head itself has a lot of play in it for some reason, it would throw off the results.

Technology@lemmy.ml•Is there such a thing as a flexible metal laptop cord protector?
3·9 months agoYeah, there are a few options for cable covers but none that I think would be great here. Expando loom will stop cable abrasions, but probably not cat teeth. There’s split loom, but that is quite rigid and I think cats could bite through it still with enough will power. There are metal cable sleeves, but these usually aren’t for physical protection and are braided in the same way that makes expando loom a not great solution. I would try what someone else mentioned first and try coating the cable in a bitterant.

Technology@lemmy.world•Stop Using Your Face or Thumb to Unlock Your PhoneEnglish
7·2 years agoWouldn’t it be good to have the truth during investigations?
Well, yeah, but the mind is fallible. That’s why eye witness testimony usually only gets a case so far, people tend to forget specifics and fill in the gaps without realizing they did.
In the gaming world, for example, MSI announced this year a monitor with a built-in NPU and the ability to quickly show League of Legends players when an enemy from outside of their field of view is arriving.
…So it just lets them cheat? I remember when monitor overlay crosshairs were controversial, this is insane to me.
Lmao timers are essentially the only thing I use Bixby for, how did they manage to fuck this up so bad??

Kiwix is probably the easiest way.
