Someday it will happen for Lemmy again.

• “local feed” on a smaller pixelfed instance will be smaller
• “global feed” on every pixelfed instance will see all pixelfed and all (image) mastodon posts, but comments made on mastodon posts using pixelfed will not be seen on mastodon
• in theory you can see Lemmy posts and subscribe to Lemmy communities with pixelfed but I haven’t got it to work. I’ve seen someone post from pixelfed to Lemmy but commenting didn’t really work.

I wonder if that actually helps their growth tho. When I first started joining lemmy I was put off by the contradictory instructions that it didn’t really matter what instance I joined, but IT WAS VITALLY IMPORTANT that I pick the right one (because of “defederation” and “local communities” – terms that meant nothing to me at the time.) But if you’re joining pixelfed and you can choose either the overwhelmingly largest instance or a tiny one, then you’re just going to pick the largest one.

Yeah I don’t think you can Follow people on the web interface of Lemmy, maybe on other interfaces. I think it’s more a matter of: is the Instance following the pixelfed/mastodon account. If so, then future posts will show up.

Agreed. Every president tries to pretend that they have a mandate. But consider:

Wisconsin has 10 electoral votes. If 14,699 people in Wisconsin had voted differently, Trump would have lost Wisconsin. Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee will fit that many people.

Michigan has 15 electoral votes. If 40,052 people in Michigan had voted differently, Trump would have lost Michigan. Comerica Park in Detroit will fit that many people.

Pennsylvania has 19 electoral votes. If 60,134 people in Pennsylvania had voted differently, Trump would have lost Pennsylvania. Beaver Stadium in University Park will fit that many people.

Without those electoral votes, Trump would have lost the election. That was the size of his victory: 2 stadiums and an arena.

These all refer to the main developer of pixelfed, dansup. The first one is dansup’s pixelfed account followed on slrpnk.net where my account is. The second one is dansup’s pixelfed account followed on lemmy.world, the biggest lemmy instance. The third one is dansup’s pixelfed account followed on lemmy.today, which is your instance.

The account is visible to me on the first two links. HYPOTHESIS: I think that means it’s “being followed” by those instances? The account is NOT visible on the last link for me, I just get an error. NeatoBuilds, take a look at the last link: it might give you an error the first time, but HYPOTHESIS: if you refresh, I think it will be visible and that means it’s “being followed” on your instance lemmy.today.

OK so I went to my pixelfed.social account, searched for “@[email protected]” and clicked on the “follow” button.

and make sure a lemmy account follows an account on the pixelfed side.

So… does it have to be a lemmy account on lemmy.world (for [email protected], say). And is there any particular pixelfed account that the lemmy account has to follow?

Yeah I don’t think pixelfed global supports Lemmy – I’ve seen a couple image posts on Lemmy in the past 10 minutes that didn’t show up on pixelfed global. So I guess they miss out on our memes and shitposts lel.

If I made an account, I’d sort by “active users” and select one of the top 5.

Take a look at [email protected] … they have lots of info in the sidebar and it’s moderately active so people will probably answer questions.

Instead of doing LinkedIn, look at individual companies’ web pages for their careers section. Make a temp email, look at LinkedIn or other job sites to see who’s hiring, then look at those companies’ web pages.

Create a dedicated gmail account.

Great advice. I got a cheap Chromebook, a burner flip-phone, and use Google docs, meet, email, etc only when on that system.

On Lemmy I browse Subscribed until I run out of new posts. Then I switch to All and look for communities to add. Over time I’ve been spending more and more time on Subscribed, as my list grows.

This post is about Mastodon, I haven’t been able to figure that place out yet.

As others have suggested, it was almost certaintly FB’s automated BS, not a report by your friend. Back around 2018 I made an account bc the martial arts group I was with had a FB group. But I didn’t attach a phone number, and I was using ublock and noscript and didn’t add a profile photo. After a week or so FB said I was suspicious and demanded I upload a government ID. No way. So instead I just made a new account every time I wanted to see the FB group.

If I were to try this again, I would:

• run Chrome in a Virtual Machine with no addons. Use that VM only for Facebook.
• Attach to that account a prepaid phone number ($40 for phone, $20 for 3 months) that I have for these situations.
• Put a profile photo of myself wearing a full-face halloween mask, or a drawing of a face maybe.
• Use a realistic nickname (for my first-name) that my friends would recognize.
• Connect through wireless at a cafe.

Then I would contact everyone on FB I wanted to get in touch with, and give them some non-FB kind of contact info, and ask them for the same. I might chat with them on FB for as long as I could, follow their groups, etc. while knowing that I might get labelled “suspicious” and removed at any time.
