I should install Debian to replace my current Ubuntu install at some point. Might move some services I run to a VM to reduce effort when reinstalling my OS. Then it’s just install steam and copy over my game backup folders. Plus with a VM I can easily move it to a proxmox mini PC if I ever get round to buying one.

1·3 days agoYou can let others use your hardware and in return get higher priority to use others. Want to generate 20 images? Its quicker spread across several other peoples GPUs at the same time with the same prompt.
Not poked AI stuff in a while though, it was interesting from a technical perspective but overall not super useful to me.

2·3 days agoBut we do own RAM, do they plan to buy all of it indefinitely? All sorts of other businesses still need computers so they will be buying them even if they cost more, and when they replace them the old ones can be sold off.
There is even the possibility of crowd sourced AI, I know AI horde exists although I think its pretty small and I haven’t touched it in a few years now.

2·3 days agoWith memory prices I think a lattepanda is a better choice than a pi if you want a cheap PC

3·3 days agoThey have but the other components don’t cost much in comparison. You are pretty much buying memory and it happens to have a completed system attached.
Pi zero is still pretty cheap though. 512MB of memory should help keep that affordable.

2·5 days agoBest computer I have ever been able to fit in my pocket. Not so great at being a phone though.
If you want a computer that can sometimes do calls and SMS but not very well, its great. For the price I think its a fairly low spec too.

2·5 days agoHah yeah fairphone 4, to be fair I do also have a pinephone though.
Used mssql-server at work where we usually use windows and its a bit shit if you want low memory hosting. Though when I have run MySQL I haven’t tested low resource systems to compare that either tbh.

3·5 days agoIKEA does have some nice stuff. Though a lot of the furniture is cheap MDF sadly. Not like you could get real wood for their prices though.

3·5 days agoPinephone 4, got it second hand earlier this year. Dutch company IIRC.
Can’t you run Apache on pretty old hardware? I thought it was something you could happily run on even some of the older versions of raspberry pi. Probably depends on what you are hosting on it of course.
Kinda want a low lower draw device to use as a server, ideally proxmox and just backup the whole VM image once its setup. But not sure how much I would really use. Very basic Apache/php, pihole, not sure if there is too much else.
Maybe factorio servers if I get into clusterIO stuff again.

Yep, not logging in, that killed off the last bit of usage I had for reddit.
