Surprisingly, in the Midwest.

I have a friend who works for a local, but widespread bank, and got to head up their digital security and IT stuff. Not sure what all it encompasses, but he quickly found out that it was a lot, and the previous guy quit because he had had enough bullshit.

Long story shorter, after a particularly bad week, he decided to just… Stop doing his job.

Kept all their legal stuff and sensitive info under lock and key, but the smaller stuff, he just let it go. Went on vacation, turned everything off, didn’t do everything for a temporary replacement (which isn’t even his job, it’s hr’s) and spent a week playing video games and spending time with his wife and baby.

Several employees just in his building basically ended up doing nothing by the end of the first day because they had locked themselves out of the system.

By day 3 there were several lines that couldn’t be used by the tellers in every branch, older employees were bricking their systems so fast, construction workers started taking notes.

By the end of the week they had people showing up at his door to try and contact him since nobody could get ahold of him. Some legit thought he was dead.

His first words when he got into the office on Monday, we’re “THAT is why you pay me.”

And after that, he was given 3 people to help out (he had been asking for 4) and they had a company come in and redo a lot of the computer systems that year.

Still works for the bank, still has a team although I think they’re bigger now since they’ve opened a few more branches, and still tells that story at every gathering after his one single beer gets him tipsy.

Is it just me, or do programmers only come in “lightweight” and “Rivals Þor in trying to drink the oceans dry” varieties?

As long as you rake in the cash quick enough, you can be rich before anyone realized that you’re the problem.

Fair enough, given the small dimensions I figured lightweight and easy to repair/replace is the biggest feature you’re going for.

I considered adding in a “for if you want to take a step up” to it, but that sounded to me like I was trying to say yours is somehow lesser, which is definitely not the case.

Too bad videos can’t give a good idea of sound quality, because I’d love to hear it. Based on the specs I can see, this thing should be a nice little powerhouse in it’s own right!

Yes, and we can see how well not burning them to the ground is going.

That’s been working out so well so far.

The only way to keep them accountable while actually ensuring compliance is to burn them to the ground if they step out of line.

If you do design another one, here’s an interesting technique I saw on a random YouTube video:

Make an enclosure that fits together so that the walls have a cavity between them you can fill with a combination of plaster of Paris and pvc glue.

This, combined with separate chambers for tweeters/woofers/subs/etc and a little thought for how the sound exits the enclosure, and you’ve got a top tier miniature sound system for a fraction of the cost. Although it will be a little bulkier, a little heavier, and takes more time to design, if you want to take another step up from what looks to me like a pretty good first one. Honestly given the 3d printed enclosure I expected all kinds of distortions and noise, but you clearly did quite well. So please don’t for a second think I’m trying to say “uhh this way is better” it’s just a different way, and one that could be better or worse for many many reasons.

Wait, people are complaining about manor lords already? So far I like it and haven’t come across anything bothersome yet. I haven’t played a ton, but I’m getting a good village going.

If anyone thinks hiring 50 people will get them an update in a week, they’ve never worked on a group project at all, let along a comolicated one. They’ve been working on it for what, 5 years now? And it’s just gotten what is essentially a beta buukd?

These people need to chill out and let a good game slowly unfold, not take a promising start and try to speed run into the trash can.

Luckily the devs are a lot smarter than the average 11 year old.

It’s insane to me all the different ways the government procures things.

Just get it straight from the manufacturer. Then if anything ever goes wrong there isn’t the “who is REALLY to blame on this long chain of people” it’s “hey this shit is broken, YOU are responsible for it”

Of course sometimes they do it as a form of opsec, if you distribute parts across many small time sellers it’s easier to hide something than one big order from the primary source.

Well, I’m glad I didn’t end up buying it last week like I wanted to. I decided to wait another paycheck instead.

Honestly people shit on review-bombing over specific incidents but this is the kind of thing that 100% deserves it.

I booted the game up and so far the only achievement I have is the first year achievement.

No idea if it’s a glitch that has kept me from getting “start the game” or what but I haven’t gotten it yet

Any time I fast forward and have to wait for a commercial that interrupted my fast forwarding, it’s an immediate cancelation of the service and I’m on the phone with customer support to try and get my couple of bucks for that month back.

You get a fine you can’t pay? Sorry that’s illegal. Jail or seized assets. If you have no assets, just jail and garnished wages. Good luck paying your fine on 23 cents a week (minus taxes)
