I’m interested to hear what everyone uses as an alternative.
The second it becomes the standard is the second google looks for ways of nerfing it.
Dead drops and one time pads.
Set up a numbers station if you can afford it.
I use both, but honestly, some mastodon users can’t help but be outright patronising and hostile to newcomers.
The whole “we don’t do that here” vibe clearly puts folk off. Weirdly, it isn’t the long term users that do that, bug more recent converts.
Why do you think that is?
It’s always been about context and provenance. Who took the image? Are there supporting accounts?
But also, it has always been about the knowlege that no one… Absolutely no one… Does lines of coke from a woven mat floor covering.

Or, conversely, just switch to Linux.
Take an hour or so to have a look around the place.
Go on the internet if you have any questions.
People are smarter than you assume and if you want Linux to grow in popularity we need to stop pretending any if this is difficult.
I think some folk want to pretend using Linux is hard so that they can feel more… Uh… Technical for using it.

All my heart still belongs to the canon HV20 forum. It taught me how to film, it taught me how to chat to people in an online community.
It was never about a camcorder. It was about connection.
Plus, you could search for stuff on google and the forum results would pop up. Good look with discord doing that.
Dunno, just feels like a vague statement with no real evidence.
Sort of like, “you wouldn’t know my girlfriend, she goes to a different school”.
…we didn’t start the fire…
Really, which scientists?
The comment section of that video demonstrates why many people ate put off by the Linux community.
Sure, the guy made a bad call on manjaro, but the weird smug comments and toxicity as a response seems disproportionate.
The arch userbase pretending they did something more difficult than follow a recipe.
I mean, I did mean run but also, yes, windows 10 is hot AF.
The big brain move was to ask them first, thereby proving you wanted to use their IP.
If he had just faked it anyway without asking he might have got away with it.
Genius strategist.
