According to this blog post, they are currently limited to 10 accounts, so not many open servers, but you can host your own.
This is an old blog post, though, so the limit might have been lifted

iirc, atprotocol was made to bring some features of mainstream social media to the fediverse that activitypub maintainer have said they won’t be adding. They explain other reasons in their faq
It doesn’t say there’s any limit on their github
In theory, bluesky can federate with other apps but it is currently the only one using their protocol, bluesky servers can federate with each other and when a new project using atprotocol appears it will probably be able to federate with that
I’d hope it’s carefulness but it doesn’t seem like it. Facebook should want to destroy fediverse instances (from a business point of view), they are supposed to be a monopoly and the fediverse is their biggest competitor.
Tumblr’s backend has been passed between several companies* for several decades, it’s a miracle it still works and can be updated
*some of which don’t even know what tumblr is
It took around a year for a solo dev (and a couple contributors) to develop a fully federated platform. Why is it taking one of the largest companies on the planet this long to make such tiny changes that are useless anyway.
And why are they releasing it like this instead of releasing everything at once?
My guess is because it’s unicode. But that doesn’t really matter. How often are you going to want to put the icon instead of just typing the fediverse
You can look at the app list on join-lemmy.org. Ignore the big scary warnings on there about non foss apps unless you want a foss app. Most of the proprietary apps are just made by hobbyists who don’t want the world to see their spaghetti code.
I also use boost, everything about it seems to work apart from spoiler tags (think because the app still uses reddit’s format instead of lemmy’s).
Depends on the writer, chances are that those in the bbc who are involved with the mastodon instance are the nerds (like us) and the writer of this article doesn’t know as much and is just listing the places the MPs went, and they are politicians so they wouldn’t know about the “nerdy options”
sorry about the amazing image quality I made this in less than a minute (I didn’t even export the image from the editor just screenshotted it lol)
Doesn’t python need colons after if/else/for/etc. statements?
Don’t attack the messenger, this is threads/meta being evil not @[email protected]
You fail to explain how stupid the Sony case is. The case is about playstation having a monopoly… on the distribution of playstation games…
Cake day on my lemmy.world account is in 11 days. Happy cake day to all that migrated!
I was just scrolling through the instance to see what it is like and I saw this post, I know it’s federation but it is still really cool
Is this comment made from a wafrn instance? It’s cool that it works with lemmy
Chr prints the unicode symbol associated with the inputted value (in python). The team name uses several operators to have the inputted value be the amogus character
