Damn that’s a wild ass story. I just finished reading Michael Connelly’s The Proving Ground which touches on the topic of liability when it AI encourages crimes. I thought the story was a theoretical scenario that could maybe happen in the future. Didn’t realize this shit was already happening - and even more fantastical that the scenario in fiction!

As a registered Republican woman from Texas with five children and two dogs, let me just say that I am astonished!

That guy was super well spoken and had a good message. I’m surprised I hadn’t heard of him before. Always nice to see the Streisand Effect in action!

“It’s important to differentiate between clinical addiction and problematic use,” he added.
“I’m sure I’ve said that I’ve been addicted to a Netflix show when I binged it really late one night, but I don’t think it’s the same thing as clinical addiction.”
Yeah, I dunno what article that dude read. Or didn’t read, apparently.

Turns out, they were just using this meme as their requirements document.

Lol my kids did the same thing. Kinda proud of those lil hooligans.

You supposed be up cookin breakfast for somebody

Yeah they’re doing it backwards. AI is on by default unless you specifically go to noai.duckduckgo.com

Copying a comment I made from another thread:
If you select “No” it gives you an option to go to an alternate DDG homepage “noai.duckduckgo.com”. But it looks like if you just go to their normal homepage, they’ve got a link to DuckAI at the top, searching for images defaults to including AI images, and they have a Search Assist that uses AI as well.
So even though the overwhelming majority of their users have responded “No AI”, they’re still defaulting everyone to the “Yes AI” experience unless you use an alternate URL. That’s kind of shitty. I mean at least they have a “no” option, but seems like it should be the default.

He talks about the reasons why people are doing this at 21:30 in the video.

Heads up he talks about this specifically at 26:30 for those who didn’t take the time to watch the video.

Same. I now see Reddit as I do Twitter, Tiktok, Instagram or whatever. If it’s linked somewhere or someone sends me something, I’ll look at it. But I’m not installing their apps or creating accounts to engage.

No need to make multiple accounts. I remember when I joined Lemmy I made 3 accounts the first day and thought “ugh this is going to be a pain in the ass keeping all these separate accounts.” But I didn’t realize that all this crap talks together. So you just make one account and it connects to everything. It’s a lot easier than people make it sound at first.

Welcome! Most of us came over during the Reddit API fiasco a couple years ago. It’s a lot nicer here. You’ll notice the difference the more you post or comment. It’s not like screaming into the void, like you get on Reddit.

Late stage enshitification.

This just made me realize that the first time I heard the term “furry” was from the network guy I used to work with 20 some years ago .

Yeah, did other people’s computers stop having power buttons or something?

The lawmaker pointed to the Pentagon’s admission to explain why the Trump administration “could not actually hold or try the individuals that survived one of the attacks is because they could not satisfy the evidentiary burden.”
Call me old fashioned, but I’m of the opinion that if you don’t have the evidence to try someone, you definitely don’t have the evidence to execute them.
What 3d printing software do you use in your country that detects if gun parts are being printed?
Because as far as I know, that’s impossible.
Edit: I assume the downvote confirms such software doesn’t exist.
