I don’t hate flatpaks, but flatpaks require more disk space than the same apps from traditional repositories, and they only support a handful of the most common default themes. Since I only ever use older and slower computers, my disk space is limited, and I like to rice my desktop, I personally avoid them. But your use-case may differ.

You’re thinking in reverse. Walled gardens keep you in, not out. Without logging into your Steam account (pretending you don’t have one), try to download a mod for a game you bought on GOG and see how it goes for you.

This is silly. Valve is already a profit driven company. You don’t see the walled garden? The DRM? Valve supports proton because it’s in their monetary interest to do so.

It does not run well. You can’t see the performance difference between KDE and XFCE on neofetch, but you absolutely can on on old machine.

How important is the Windows-style desktop? If the VM is designed for one thing and one thing only, I’d pick any minimal WM that can alt-tab, say JWM, and then just add Firefox and Thunderbird to the autostart file.

Having seen a total eclipse before, I know solar eclipses are in danger of being overhyped. IMO, they probably aren’t worth driving across the country. But if all you need is a 3 to 5 hour drive to get to the path of totality, I think you should absolutely do it. They’re legit. Not, like, life changing, but legit. I disagree. I think it’s inevitable. They already have the final hundred levels mapped out, and there are long stretches that are completely safe. The challenge will be levels where you can’t take singles and also the levels where you have to push down on every piece, but compared to what’s already been accomplished, it’s only a matter of time.

I agree with all of that. I don’t see our two comments as in conflict, except that when I said “societ[al]… standards on the rejection of nudity”, I didn’t draw the line at sex organs. But I don’t think Twitch is going to ban short people any time soon, if you’re worried about a slippery slope.

My original reply was in regards to the word “sexist”. If your definition of “sexist” is so morally neutral that it includes literally any kind of discrimination between sexes, then that’s fine; this is “sexist”, and so are all of us. But since most people use “sexist” to refer to a moral transgression, it seems silly to me to pretend that male and female nipples are the same, and I don’t see any moral hazard in saying so.

Whether or not society should care so much about titties isn’t a question I was trying to address, only that it’s not sexist to do so.

Yes, we’re talking about the way society and twitch treats people differently… on the basis of physical sexual characteristics expressly regarding the topic of physical sexual characteristics. I’ve never used Twitch, but unless there’s something I’m supposed to be reading inbetween the lines, I don’t see the problem with banning female nipples. If society is going to have any standards on the rejection of nudity, I don’t see why the line has to be drawn somewhere before nipples and no further.

There are literal sex differences between men and women. If we include those in the definition of sexism, we cheapen the word.

I’ve never dived into this, but if electronic keyboards are just glorified midi-controllers, I’d have to think you could find a FOSS solution. If they’re not simply midi-controllers, I wouldn’t begin to know. I’d imagine you might have an easier time with keyboards from the 90s or whenever.

Bold of them to assume there are that many circuits in any house built in my area. Most of the breakers will apparently control nothing, and then there’s exactly one circuit that controls half the house, including the kitchen, so if you run the microwave and a blender at the same time, it’ll trip.

Not that I’ll ever be in a position to have employees, but if somehow I ever find myself in that situation, the start of the work day will be set at 2 hours after sunrise.
