I’m an 18yo out of high school. I don’t really know what to do with my life going forward, but I know further education isn’t for me. I haven’t found many jobs going for people my age and I know OF creators can make a lot of money if they doing it correctly. I’m curious if 1. It’s worth the trouble? 2. It’s looked down upon by those in the nsfw community and 3. If anyone would actually sub to me if I did set it up. Happy to chat, discuss it, answer questions and have a general discussion. I’ve also posted some pics of me on my profile if you want to have a look x
If I were young and starting over, I’d either become an electrician or an air traffic controller.
Good luck!
According to OnlyFans’ own data, the average monthly income for content creators (the term used to refer to those who have monetized profiles on OnlyFans) is only $277.77 (Silverman, Dec 2022). But, even for those who spend a minimum of 40 hours a week (full-time) preparing content, cross-marketing on social media, and communicating with content consumers (or buyers), the average monthly income is still only $1,111.00 (Avery Center, 2022). That is an average annual income of $13,332.00, which is below the poverty line.
OF is capitalist exploitation disguised as female empowerment. Until a federated equivalent is developed the majority of profits will continue to go to platform owners.
I think there are a lot of good takes here. And I do think you might gain a better understanding of it if you were able to chat with a creator directly. So maybe reach out someone in the community.
That would help you understand the actual work involved, the hours, the effort, but also the less ethical parts of it like hiring marketing agencies or talent support groups that work on your behalf acting like you - and as I understand it, all the “big girls” are doing it. So you might need to decide that if you would be OK with that.
Also, and I am saying this as a former patron of OF creators, please understand the market and who you are “competing” against. Yes, there are other OF models, but also there are other porn sites. You will be competing against the big studios, as well as the prominent models for the same amount of disposable income.
That said, please don’t forget, if you commit to this, there might be an opportunity cost - this will be a part of your “past”, and it will probably block some opportunities in the future because of the “taboo” of sex work. And this is not just professional life I am talking about, it will be personal life as well.
I mean, people do succeed at it, but it’s a lot of hard work to go from zero to any kind of useful income.
You have to actively and aggressively market yourself. You have to do that with the ugly fact that the very people you’re trying to convert to paying customers are probably assholes, since people in general are assholes.
You have to put in effort into that side of things, while also dealing with the inevitable trolls too.
You have to differentiate yourself enough to stand out from the crowd, but not go so niche that you exclude the vanilla sorts.
With no moral bullshit or prudery involved, if my kid asked me this, I’d tell them the same thing. It’s a shit ton of work for the chance to make something resembling a living. Unless you get really lucky, our won’t ever be anything you can do as your main income. If you do, you have to know, not just think about, that it is going to go away eventually. The baked market shrinks the older you get. That sucks, because it isn’t like a person can’t be sexy as hell their entire life. But it’s still true.
So, you can’t really call it a career at all.
So, you still have to plan for the future, but you’re planning it with the fact that your pictures are now out there. Even if you don’t do nudes (and with a lot of luck, that is possible to make work), you’ve got that hanging there. While I don’t have any issues with what someone did do make money in the past, I’m in the minority. Until and unless general society gives up that sense of skewed morals, there’s always a chance that picture of you in your sexiest dress can bite you in the ass. And the less clothing is on, the worse the bite can be. The more that picture is obviously done for money, the worse the bite will be.
Again, this is the same speech I would give anyone your age that asked me this irl. It’s a decision to make carefully, and once made, needs to be planned out well.
Before you make the decision, start finding the forums and such where people that have done it give advice. Talk to people that have failed, just as much to those that have succeeded.
I disagree with the niche thing. The vanilla creators are so great in number that niche is the best chance of getting known and making money. I know someone who makes “fun money” putting out a handful of videos a month and taking a handful of custom orders as well. Very niche.
For every person making thousands, there are thousands of people making pennies, I don’t think it’s worth it. Hustling is such a drag, and to do that as your main source of income very dangerous.
No, I don’t think it’s looked down upon here, there are a lot of commercial accounts, for better or worse I’m not sure, but promoting seems to be allowed.
As a side job it might make sense but I’d strongly suggest (as a mom to lots of kids) finding a trade you can enjoy, if you don’t want to do university. Electrician, barber, welder, mechanic - something skilled will bring in more money with less stress, and you are at a perfect age to start. Even working your way up at Whole Foods or Costco or some other good grocery, there are more jobs than you might think.
echoing some other people, this is a scam to exploit you. if youre extremely lucky, youll earn something, but doing a good job is certainly not enough, you still need luck. OF just needs a small percentage of people making money serving as bait to attract a huge bunch of other people to exploit, regardless of merit, and thats the part youll play most likely.
I think you are attractive and that you might would be popular on these sites…
But honestly don’t. It is probably not even going to pay you what you deserve for your labor.
Read what people here are saying and remember that if you would do OF, you would probably advertise yourself here. So people would see your naked body, and a lot of people here are specifically here because they want to see naked bodies. You doing OF would be better for them but they tell you not too because it ain’t worth it. Realize the weight of that fact. Think about the risks and costs.
E.g. based on what I heard, you can lose money on OF, because people are cancelling their sub. Just saying.
Disclaimer: I’m not on OnlyFans or any other similar platforms. All I know about it is what I’ve heard from others.
Based on what I hear about OnlyFans, it sounds like Twitch streaming or acting. It’s a popular platform, and you hear about people making tons of money and living lives of luxury.
I suspect the reality is that OnlyFans is like streaming or acting, in that only the 1% very best & luckiest are able to make a living off of it, and everyone else involved simply has an expensive and time-consuming hobby.
If you’re 18 and only have a high school diploma, few careers with decent prospects will be open to you without further education. You could eke out a living waiting tables or working as a cashier in a big box store. If you’re not interested in a white collar office job you’d probably still have to go through training & apprenticeship if you wanted into a skilled manual labor career (welder, machinist, hvac, electrician, etc).
It’s probably a bit too late to be born into a rich family. Even then: I once worked an office job at a teapot factory. The corporation which owned said factory & several others sold billions of dollars of teapots every year, and was wholly owned by a single individual. If he isn’t a billionaire he’s not far from it. He has several siblings, children, & niblings. He makes them all have jobs. So even if you were born rich you’d probably still be made to get a job at some point.
As far as how to figure out what to do with your life? I’m sure there are career assessments available online that would have you answer questions & then determine what sort of careers you might find interesting or rewarding.
Someone posted the other day that their spouse was in the top 1 % of OF. And they made only 150 € a month. Being a successful OF model is kind of the same as being a successful Twitch streamer. Sure, it’s possible. But only for a small lucky few.
I’d even say it’s easier to be successful on Twitch than on OF. And you’re probably more successful on OF if you are already successful on Twitch or YouTube.
That’s really insane if true. Did they explain why it’s that low? Is it due to fees or just a low sub count? If your profit is not increasing from that month to month then no way is putting all of yourself out there like that worth 1 days work of any regular job these days.
Just read the other comments here.
Be aware that the vast majority of people on OF make little to no money, ever. A handful might make a real career out of it but from what I understand it’s a real grind, uploading content every day. Talking to and interacting with subscribers for many hours a day. Lots of time spent in promotion across several different platforms, editing, etc.
I’ve heard stories of people receiving abuse because someone messaged them in the early hours of the morning, while they were asleep and didn’t get a response. Anyone you know can easily get your pictures and show them to friends and family or prospective partners out of vindictiveness.
Like, all power to you if you want to do it, but it’s not the utopia of free money and selling bath water except for maybe a handful of people out of literally tens of thousands of people grinding it out for pennies.
The answer to this question is always, it depends on you but probably no. Like others have said, even at the “top 1%”(there’s so many profiles that these statistics don’t mean much) you’re not making a whole lot more than just some passive beer money. It’s an insane grind of marketing yourself to even get to that point and if you slow down even a little your progress will disappear very quickly.
You also need to take into account that the internet is forever. Even if you delete your profile and pictures, they still exist. If for example you want to transition to a different career that is not friendly to NSFW backgrounds, like a teacher, you’re placing yourself in a very precarious position. Weigh your options to determine if this is something that’s okay for you.
Everyone should be free to do as they please with their life and their body, so if you feel like doing it, it’s your life, don’t let anyone else decide for you.
With that said, before doing it, please consider the long term situation here:
First of all, whatever goes on the internet stays there forever. This means you need to accept that in 20 years your content will still be available. You might have changed careers, but people will be able to find your work till then. If you are ok with this, go ahead.
Linked to this, depending on where you live, people will react differently to this. Some won’t care, but some others will, and if you want to look for a job at a later stage of your life, you need to be prepared to be challenged about your past.
People in onlyfans can make a lot of money. But that doesn’t mean they will. If you are lucky, hit the jackpot and earn a lot of money (let’s hope so!!), think of the future. Sadly it’s a job where age matters. How long will it last, nobody knows. You might be able to keep going till your 30’s or even your 40’s, maybe your 50’s. Then what? Plan ahead and save money for then!!
On the positive side, you’ll be your own boss, but as with any content creator, the audience will want to have a saying on your content. Given the nature of the job, please, always, always, think of yourself first. Never do something that you could regret later!
With all that said, whatever you choose, I wish you the best of luck!
You have a better chance on fansly since its lowkey nsfw tiktok
As much as I like seeing your face, your body is nice enough that you don’t have to fully compromise your identity at least in nudes.
Niche doesnt mean fked up btw, you’re attractive so it could be like praise or talking down on ppl, or do both. Heidiehottes a good example
