I’ll definitely give the web UI a shot since I’m already quite familiar with A1111 and it seems they’re trying to recreate the same look and feel. Thank you for the info!

I’ve been wanting to run that one on my hardware but GPT4All just refuses to start its GUI. The only thing is a “chat.exe” that sits idle in the task manager. And this is an issue I’ve seen reported in their Github from several users, on both Win 10 and 11.
Have you find success with that frontend, or are you using one that actually works? I haven’t researched any others since this issue has me a little burnt out.
I’ve also cone to realize that this is the real purpose of ads.
[email protected], you have the right idea, but the other key thing you should remember is to never talk about the corps to anyone, even if you’re dragging their name through the mud. “No such thing as bad press,” as they say.
It’s good to denounce the practice, but it seems naming and shaming specific companies just doesn’t work anymore at this stage.
I was gonna say that Texas’ flag is the only one “allowed” to be at the same height as the U.S. flag, but apparently I’ve been taught a big ol’ lie.
In fact it looks like we’re both wrong, according to Snopes.
Braum’s gang sound off!
With my luck they’re also a shitty company and I had no idea…
If you want to have a little fun, start speaking nonsense. Since they’re only half-listening, they deserve no more than your half-talking.
If they took action against the OOT PC port I would lie down, try not to cry, then cry a lot.
OOT at 4k60 is such a beautiful, fun experience—especially with a good randomizer. Yes I’m old.
I’ve recently been using the home page on YT (in addition to my bookmark, which takes me straight to /feed/subscriptions) and I’ve been pleasantly surprised. It seems like the algorithm is generally pretty good at finding similar videos to the ones I enjoy. That is unless I scroll waaaaay down, where it just runs out of ideas. I would recommend trying out your home page, with some light pruning as needed (“Not interested”, “Don’t recommend channel”).
Same here, generally, but I think there are a tiny few people who have a legitimate reason for using TTS. For instance, those whose English skills are lacking, or who have an accent which some might find distracting. Or a person who is self-conscious about their voice but still has something to offer, or maybe those who legitimately can’t speak at all. Hell, I support anyone who could narrate but doesn’t want to put their voice out there for privacy reasons, or to keep it out of the public space where it will inevitably be used as training data.
I’d still rather listen to the human, because I can’t stand any of the “AI” voices, especially those that are used on every fucking tiktok (I stay away from TT, but unfortunately the voices are pretty ubiquitous). It might sound silly but I’d prefer good old Microsoft Sam to the any of these new voices.
One channel I found recently for coding-related topics uses TTS but before I got annoyed enough to close it, I realized that the script was probably hand-written, just narrated by a machine. The video was highly informative, and I walked away having learned some new information. For the curious
Something that sucks about this new wave of TTS is that we get some odd errors in pronunciation that probably wouldn’t be there if it was spoken by a human. A missing comma or other punctuation errors will pass a spell check but end up sounding really strange due to the broken inflection. Uncanny Valley stuff I suppose.
AI thumbnails are utter garbage though. All polish, no substance, no love for the craft.
Curious, where are you from? I like it when people from other countries use y’all, especially when the apostrophe is in the right place 🙂
Did the Neutral President write this?
Exactly. With “AIs”, people need to remember that coherence ≠ cogency.
For the common user, it’s almost like that one quote that gets tossed around equating sufficiently-advanced technology and magic. The less-informed (those who truly believe the “AI” moniker that has been tacked on these things) read the output and it’s astonishingly readable, so they assume that since the nerdy experts built this thing, it must be correct.
Then as you said, managers/execs don’t make any effort to understand the lower echelon because capitalist Darwinism has caused them to chase numbers instead of, I dunno, connecting with the humans who actually keep their business running. LLMs are just their newest toy for slashing the shit out of wages on their P&L for the next several quarters.
Hah, I didn’t mean to sound like a crazy person, and I definitely don’t have a solution for capitalism, but that’s just my frustrated two cents.
The game of telephone has itself become mutated. I can’t tell if that’s funny or sad.
I know you’re (partially) joking but, the way I’ve seen my coworkers swoon over chatgpt for code snippets, I’d be shocked if thousands don’t already use it for summarizing emails.
Is GP me? Haven’t heard of that but I assume it’s similar to OP. In case it is, I elaborated a bit in another reply!
Probably, yeah. Definitely can’t be good for them. I’m not a biologist, but I encourage anyone reading this to chime in! What happens to cave-dwelling creatures when brought out into the sun for an extended period?
I didn’t make it clear in my original comment, but in my head I imagined a race whose explorers swore off venturing into the darkness after the first few disappearances. Maybe some folklore emerged, and they assumed that “that place” and death are intrinsically related. Then, as their tech became more advanced, they gained the ability to scrutinize the other planets in their star system. Imagine the horror when they see “death” wandering along the surface (rather, the surface moving through it) and they have no clue why theirs isn’t moving.
Is it merely asleep?
This was a fun thought experiment. Thanks for getting my brain churning! I’d love to read someone’s expansion on this idea, if anyone else finds it fascinating. At this point in the lore, I can see religions being born to try and appease Death, or at least prolong its slumber in the frozen hemisphere while they search for answers. Wars are fought, nations fall, yada yada… Maybe it’s best not to draw too many parallels with our own world 😁
What a terrifying thought! I imagine there’s some other sapient race out there that has experienced that.
Now think about the kinds of predators that evolved in constant night, which those people found while exploring the darkness. Then they develop telescopes and discover other worlds on which the night moves…
I thought it was at first too. In the U.S. (at least, here in Texas) I feel like the bigger offender is all the lifted trucks, coal-rollers, etc. Not sure how bad muscle cars are but they’re also very prevalent. Seems like every 5th person in my city has a Mustang or Charger with a muffler delete.
I’ve heard of settling for second-best, but this one’s new.
Not trying to dig at you. If you enjoy it, awesome. I’m partly ashamed to admit I still hop into Skyrim every now and then, and it doubtless has more issues than SF.
On the topic of the thread, I backed SC in the past (goddamn I love the design of the M50) and I’m mega disappointed that they’ve handled it the way they have. Actually, one of my favorite quotes from David Mitchell kind of fits here:

The “fun” part is that it has already discovered the poop knife. We just need to figure out how to coax it out.
