  • Unless those on the attacking side (MAGA) decide they don’t want to murder more of us, I’m not sure we can. The first civil war was incredibly bloody and tensions between the sides never settled down fully. We are in this situation partly because there is no way to have a compromise with people that believe some of our society’s members aren’t human. The white supremacist view of slave owners and supporters of slavery never went away, it needs to be cut out from the root.

True they have been guilty for a while, but they didn’t always post like they have been now, as a part of DHS who posts nothing but fascist propaganda on other social media these days I doubt their posts would be different. ICE is actively recruiting so just having the account is an ad for joining, not that different than a corporate business social media. I agree with the idea that a communication platform should be neutral politically, in general, but it is a special situation when an agency is currently waging a violent campaign and uses social media to further their agenda and blurring of the truth. They are a government agency but not a necessary one and it’s not essential they are allowed on a third-party social media platform, it could be argued their conduct and behavior as a group is already against the policies of Bluesky like condoning violence.

But anyway I agree they shouldn’t necessarily be blocked preemptively, a rogue poster could use the account to say “ICE are terrorist thugs” or something.

  • I think a president and enough political supporters could turn the US into a socialist or communist state, a president like that could at least make some incremental changes, but with the elections and state functions so controlled by capitalists and bourgeois interests it seems unlikely in the US political climate. I don’t think it’s impossible though and we should use all means possible to help, but issues we face such as climate change and wealth inequality require more substantial changes that aren’t likely to be passed and implemented quickly enough within the current structure to adequately address them in time.

The trend has continued steadily since then, and furthermore,

Bier wrote in November that his work showed the Biden administration “has removed a higher percentage of arrested border crossers in its first two years than the Trump DHS did over its last two years. Moreover, migrants were more likely to be released after a border arrest under President Trump than under President Biden.”

    https://www.factcheck.org/2024/02/breaking-down-the-immigration-figures/

This is from 2024, the DHS spokesperson at the time:

“Under this Administration, the estimated annual apprehension rate has averaged 78%, identical to the rate of the prior Administration.”

The idea Biden opened the borders is thoroughly debunked. Like I said you’re the one telling me a bunch of bullshit so it’s on you to disprove reality, I don’t care enough to spoonfeed you the facts.

“Improper entry” through illegally crossing a border is a crime, but the majority of undocumented immigrants in the US don’t enter that way. “Unlawful presence” after a visa expires or is denied receives civil penalties rather than criminal, meaning they can’t lead to imprisonment but only fines or a court action like deportation.
