It’s good to point this out, I don’t drive but I forget they could probably track my bike still based on it’s distinctiveness, calling them license plate readers really does obscure the insidiousness well. We’ve heard about automatic license plate readers for years, they weren’t like this so it is really disingenuous to call them such.

When was the last time you heard someone mention the NSA? After Snowden’s revelations, one thing that was pointed out was you need massive storage for all of the surveillance data. Interpreting text and visual data being one of the strongest abilities of this AI, it seems obvious that this is what the real push to make it omnipresent is for. All of our data to be fed into the machine to generate lists of dissidents.

Unless those on the attacking side (MAGA) decide they don’t want to murder more of us, I’m not sure we can. The first civil war was incredibly bloody and tensions between the sides never settled down fully. We are in this situation partly because there is no way to have a compromise with people that believe some of our society’s members aren’t human. True they have been guilty for a while, but they didn’t always post like they have been now, as a part of DHS who posts nothing but fascist propaganda on other social media these days I doubt their posts would be different. ICE is actively recruiting so just having the account is an ad for joining, not that different than a corporate business social media. I agree with the idea that a communication platform should be neutral politically, in general, but it is a special situation when an agency is currently waging a violent campaign and uses social media to further their agenda and blurring of the truth. They are a government agency but not a necessary one and it’s not essential they are allowed on a third-party social media platform, it could be argued their conduct and behavior as a group is already against the policies of Bluesky like condoning violence.

But anyway I agree they shouldn’t necessarily be blocked preemptively, a rogue poster could use the account to say “ICE are terrorist thugs” or something.

Posting propaganda for a terrorist organization engaged in widespread public abuse is against their rules, do they allow official verified pages for groups like ISIS or Boko Harem?

Maybe in time or with better political education, but if a president suddenly tried to do that anywhere in the near future I would guess it could cause conservative states to cecede like the civil war to defend capitalism, or at least some kind of violent conflict is likely to happen.

I think a president and enough political supporters could turn the US into a socialist or communist state, a president like that could at least make some incremental changes, but with the elections and state functions so controlled by capitalists and bourgeois interests it seems unlikely in the US political climate. I don’t think it’s impossible though and we should use all means possible to help, but issues we face such as climate change and wealth inequality require more substantial changes that aren’t likely to be passed and implemented quickly enough within the current structure to adequately address them in time.

Why would electing a socialist president change anything? The US would still be a fascist imperialist hell state deserving of death. The president doesn’t control everything, capitalists and the military industry would still be waging global wars.
